After many years of residents enjoying its popular food truck, which makes frequent stops in the city, What-A-Burger will open a location in Locust.

The popular restaurant, which has several locations in the area including in downtown Concord and Mount Pleasant, is moving next to the Sunoco gas station at the intersection of Central Avenue and N.C. Highway 24-27 sometime in May, according to Locust Planning Director Scott Efird.

Carolina Barbecue Company had been at the location since late 2018, but moved out a few weeks ago. Its last day of operation  was Feb. 12.

“Unfortunately our landlord has decided not to renew our lease in favor of another tenant,” the restaurant wrote on its Facebook page. “We have been working hard to locate a new space to operate, but unfortunately we have not been able to.”

Carolina Barbecue said that it’s still “holding out hope” that it will find another location within Locust to continue the business.

Efird, who had been working with What-A-Burger to find a space in Locust for many years, is confident it will do well in the city.

“It will be really popular because the food truck has been coming out here for the last several years,” he said.
