Kane Lowder, a member of Boy Scout Troop 202 and a resident of Oakboro, has earned the honor of Eagle Scout, the highest rank that the Boy Scouts offers. Only two percent of all Boy Scouts ever attain this honor.
Lowder, 16, of West Stanly High School, earned 37 merit badges. A Scout is required to earn 21 for the Eagle Scout award. For his final project he built an outdoor classroom at Locust Elementary School.
“I’d like to thank all of my leaders and fellow scouts,” Lowder said at his Eagle ceremony.
Lowder has also traveled with Troop 202 to Yosemite National Park in California in 2018 and attended scouting events at Camp Barnhardt on New London and Camp Raven Knob in Mount Airy.
Troop 202 held a ceremony to honor him on March 15 in the Locust Presbyterian Church sanctuary.
Troop 202 has been active in the community through The Big Serve, picking up trash along Running Creek Road through the Adopt-A-Highway program and volunteering at West Stanly Christian Ministries.
It meets at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and charter out of Locust Presbyterian Church.
