The Stanly County Agri-Civic Center will be transformed into an art gallery for a week, filled with masterpieces from area youth.

More than 100 pieces of art will be on display in the lobby of the Agri-Civic Center and the hallway into the auditorium.

The public is invited to view the art 3-6 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday to Friday. Evening hours are also available 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday.

Artwork from 11 elementary schools (art teacher), including Aquadale (Jonathan Davis), Carolina Christian (Wendy Hammond), Central (Cherie Reeves), East Albemarle (Chris Accornero), Endy (Julie Starnes), Locust (Julie Starnes), Norwood (Chris Accornero) and Richfield (Jonathan Davis), will be on display. Mixed in with the elementary submissions will also be entries from all public middle schools and high schools, including Albemarle Middle (Tracey Smith), North Stanly Middle (Rebekah Crisco), South Stanly Middle (Amanda Simmons), West Stanly Middle (Stacy Bottoms), Albemarle High (Cheryl Savage-Mazza), Stanly Academy (Sarah Blanton), North Stanly High (Stone Russell), South Stanly High (Wanda Maness) and West Stanly High (Randall Fike).

New this year is artwork from Stanly Community College’s Digital Drawing, Simulation & Game 3-D Modeling and Advertising & Graphic Design classes taught by Josh Gooch.

In addition to the art show entries, a display of yellow sunflowers painted by South Stanly High art students, under the direction of teacher Wanda Maness, will be on exhibit in the lobby showing support for Ukraine.

“Although the demonstrations, exhibits and performances of Celebration of the ARTS were canceled, we are excited to be able to showcase the talents of our youth and the dedication of our art teachers to the public with this art exhibit. I hope the public will take the time to come to the Agri-Civic Center to experience first-hand the richness and beauty that our youth express through pencil and paint,” said Renee VanHorn, executive director of the Stanly County Arts Council. “We are grateful for the assistance and support of Joshua Cross of Pfeiffer University, Stanly Arts Guild, Stanly County Schools and the staff of the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center for ensuring this art show for our youth and their families was possible.”
