The Stanly County Historical Society and the Stanly County History Center will present a special program about the doctors of Stanly County who played a role in the community for the first three and a half decades after the Stanly County Hospital opened in 1950.

The program will begin at 7 p.m. March 29 in the sanctuary of Central United Methodist Church, 172 N. 2nd St., Albemarle.

This program “Health Heroes of Prior Decades: Part II” is a follow-up of the presentation Dr. Eric Johnsen and Dr. Stephen Seltzer gave in 2019. The earlier presentation covered the years from 1850-1950.

This time Johnsen and Seltzer will focus on the doctors who served the community 1950-1985.

Although both of the presenters are now retired, both were board certified family practice physicians.

Johnsen received his medical training at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and completed his residency at the University of Kentucky, in Lexington, Kentucky.

Seltzer received his medical training at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa and did his residency at Moses H. Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

The presentation is open to the public and free, but individuals are encouraged to preregister by calling the Stanly County History Center 704-986-3777 and leave name, phone number and the number in your group. Dr. and Mrs. Eric Johnsen will be leaving Albemarle in the near future for Knoxville, Tennessee. The Johnsens are looking forward to being closer to one of their sons and his wife, both of whom are physicians.
