Students at Pfeiffer University’s Misenheimer campus have been required to shelter in place and lock their doors following an unconfirmed report about a potential active shooter.

Casey Habich, director of marketing and communications for the university, said Misenheimer police are investigating the incident.

“To my knowledge, police and campus officials have not seen or heard any gun fire, there was strictly a report that came into police,” he said.

Even though he does not know the origins of the report — whether it was called in or someone utilized the university’s LiveSafe app — Habich said the university and police are nonetheless taking it “very seriously.”

This is a developing story. Additional information will be included once more is known.
