Just before 1 p.m. Thursday, the National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for several North Carolina counties, including Stanly. The watch is in effect until 8 p.m.

“If you live in that area, please use caution and take the necessary steps to protect you and your family,” Stanly County Emergency Management recently posted on Facebook.

The Weather Service calls for 90 percent chance of rain this afternoon with gusts up to 40 mph. New rainfall amounts are expected to be between a tenth and quarter of an inch.

The rain will likely last into the afternoon but clear away by around 5 p.m. The next realistic chance of rainfall is next Tuesday.
