South Stanly men’s tennis team makes school history

This season, the South Stanly men’s tennis team did something no other men’s team in the sport had ever accomplished: win a conference title.

Under head coach Sean Whitley, the Bulls went 9-0 this season and 8-0 in the Yadkin Valley Conference. The team’s four, five and six seeds in singles, Lucas Lefler, Ethan Hopkins and Cohen Whitley, respectively, went undefeated in conference play.

Whitley and Hopkins also went undefeated in doubles play.

At the No. 3 seed, Ethan Hatley was 6-2 overall in singles, while second-seed Bennett Shelton was 4-4. Caleb Lefler, the team’s top seed, was 3-5 in single and 4-3 in doubles with Lucas. The team of Shelton and Hatley were 7-1 in conference doubles play.
