South Stanly takes county golf title

This season’s Stanly County high school men’s golf championship saw the South men’s golf team earn the title and sweep all but two of the places on the All-County Team.

Hosted by West Stanly and played at Red Bridge Golf Club, the Bulls took first place with a team score of 338, followed by North Stanly (373) and West Stanly (374).

Sophomore Luke Dennis and Junior Dustin Hurley earned co-medalist hnors by shooting 18-hole rounds of 80. They were joined on the All-County team by teammates Reid Smith (87), Davis Wright (88), Luke Webb (88) and Jacob Turner (88).

The Comets were led by Carson Morris with a 90, followed on his team by Jerry Almond (93), KJ Cooper (94), Mac Barfield (96), Arron Braunsburg (101) and Landon Almond (110).

West had two golfers finish in the top eight to earn All-County Honors. Ryan Collins led the Colts with an 86 followed on his team by Damien Moser (88). Matthew Parker was third for West with a 97, followed on his team by Connor Ingle (103), Nick Barringer (106) and J.T. Barbee (109).
