Stanly high school teams qualify for baseball, softball state playoffs

Stanly County will be represented by several teams in baseball and softball as the NCHSAA state playoffs open Tuesday night.

1A Softball

In the 1A Western Region, South Stanly (22-3) earned the No. 1 seed in the region and will host No. 32 Andrews (3-16) out of the Smoky Mountain Conference.

The Bulls have earned home field advantage for the playoffs as the top seed and could host games up to and including the regional finals.

Gray Stone Day (11-10) earned the No. 15 seed and will host No. 18 Elkin (14-9) in the 1A West.

2A Softball

West Stanly (21-4) finished as the No. 2 seed in the 2A Western Region and hosts No. 31 Wheatmore (8-12).

North Stanly (11-8) earned a No. 22 seed and will be on the road Tuesday at No. 11 West Davidson (13-11).

1A Baseball

Starting on the road in the first round will be the No. 20 South Stanly Rebel Bulls (6-13) will travel to No. 13 Hayesville (10-4) Tuesday.

Gray Stone Day (6-11) is a No. 21 seed and travels to No. 12 Christ The King (7-9).

2A Baseball

North Stanly (21-2) is a No. 2 seed in the 2A West and hosts No. 31 Bunker Hill (12-11).

Also in the 2A West is the eight-seed West Stanly (20-6) who will play a familiar opponent in No. 25 Mount Pleasant (10-10).
