A Montgomery County resident was killed following a two-vehicle collision along N.C. Highway 24-27 in Albemarle last week, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

At around 8:16 a.m. Friday, Daevon Hammond, 22, of Mount Gilead was traveling east on N.C. 24-27 near Stony Mountain Road in his 2007 white Nissan Maxima when he spun out of control, Highway Patrol reported, entered the westbound lane and collided with a 2012 white Chevy Silverado driven by 55-year-old Biscoe resident Steven English.

Hammond was pronounced dead on the scene, according to law enforcement. English had minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and alcohol was not involved. Hammond was driving too fast for the conditions but was not necessarily speeding, according to Highway Patrol.
