By a vote of 4-0, with Mayor Pro Tem Deloris Chambers not in attendance, the Badin Town Council passed the budget for the upcoming fiscal year starting July 1.

The town council passed an amendment which included an increase of the tax rate from 43 cents to 44.175 cents per $100.

Badin is estimating a total of $1,857,351 in revenue in the upcoming year, including $500,200 for the opening phase of the Badin Waterfront Park project from a state grant. The total is more than last year’s budgeted revenue total of $940,867.

Badin will also get a state grant of $75,100 for improvements to the Badin Conference Center, the meeting place for the town council since 2020.

According to the budget, Badin will get $560,000 in sales and use taxes up, from $490,000 last year, and $290,000 in property taxes, $40,000 more than last year’s budget.

Powell Bill funds totalling $60,020 will go to the street department for maintenance and repairs, along with street signs, tools and auto repairs.

Of Badin’s expenditures, the administration department is projected to spend $243,650 in 2022-23, up from last year’s budget of $234,525. The biggest administration expenditure is salaries, which increased by $6,000 to this year’s estimate of $109,600.

Badin’s police department will have a budget of $431,010, $6,540 less than last year. The largest item in the police budget is $225,000 in salaries, $5,000 less than last year.

The public works department’s budget increased in the budget for next year to $215,190, up from $191,750 last year. Salaries increased from $73,500 to $82,500 for the 2022-23 fiscal year.
