Candidate filing for nonpartisan municipal elections begins Friday

Filing to run for nonpartisan municipal offices across the county in the general election is only a few days away. The filing period will begin at noon Friday and run until noon July 15.

Below are the seats that will be up for grabs for each of the county’s municipalities in November and the incumbents that currently hold them.

Albemarle

  • Council At-Large (four years) — Martha Hughes
  • Council District 2 (four years) — Shirley Lowder
  • Council District 4 (four years) — Chris Whitley

Badin

  • Council At-Large (four years) — Larry Milano
  • Council East District (four years) — Anne Harwood
  • Council West District (four years) — Deloris Chambers

Locust

  • Mayor (two years) — Steve Huber
  • Council At-Large (four years) — J.C. Burris
  • Council At-Large (four years) — Roger Hypes
  • Council At-Large (four years) — Mandy Watson

Misenheimer

  • Council At-Large (four years) — Michael Herron
  • Council At-Large (four years) — Peter Edquist
  • Council At-Large (four years) — Micah Edquist

New London

  • Mayor (four years) — Tate Daniels
  • Commissioner At-Large (four years) — Marcus Mullis

Norwood

  • Council At-Large (four years) — Karen Smith

Richfield

  • Mayor (four years) — Terry Deese
  • Commissioner At-Large (four years) — Cynthia Heglar
  • Commissioner At-Large (four years) — Kevin Almond
  • Commissioner At-Large (two years) — Jay Patel

Stanfield 

  • Mayor (four years) — Kevin Barbee
  • Commissioner At-Large (four years) — Brent Holbrooks
  • Commissioner At-Large (four years) — James Kluttz
  • Commissioner At-Large (two years) — Greg Bratton

People also have until noon Friday to file for Soil and Water Conservation District supervisor. The incumbents are Curtis Furr (elected in 2018) and Gerald McSwain (appointed in 2020).
