Worker killed in trench collapse Tuesday in Albemarle

There was a trench collapse in Stanly County Tuesday morning, resulting in the death of a construction worker, according to county officials.

Stanly County Emergency Services, Millingport Volunteer Fire Department, Concord Fire USAR Team, Stanly County Rescue Squad and Stanly County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and quickly determined that it would be a recovery operation.

NC Department of Labor was also were on site. The incident occurred at a site development of a new residential subdivision near the intersection of Hatley Farm Road and N.C. Highway 73.

The call to 911 was placed around 8:30 a.m. and all units cleared the scene at approximately 3:30 p.m. There were no additional injuries.
