Officials identify man killed in trench collapse

A trench collapse at a construction site in Stanly County Tuesday morning resulted in the death of a worker, county officials said.

Stanly County Emergency Services, Millingport Volunteer Fire Department, Concord Fire USAR Team, Stanly County Rescue Squad and Stanly County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene for recovery operation after receiving a 911 call around 8:30 a.m.

The incident occurred at a site development of a new residential subdivision near the intersection of Hatley Farm Road and N.C. Highway 73.

Stanly Emergency Services Director Michael Roark identified the worker as Joshua Brindle, 30, an employee of Brindle Site Services of Midland.

All units cleared the scene at approximately 3:30 p.m. There were no additional injuries.

NC Department of Labor was also on site investigating.
