The N.C. General Assembly wrapped up its short legislative session in Raleigh recently with the adoption of a state budget.

Legislative leaders also made appointments to boards and commissions as part of the final bills passed during the session.

Joseph L. Burleson of the Endy community was appointed by Speaker of the House Tim Moore (R-Cleveland) to the Rural Infrastructure Authority.

Burleson’s appointment to serve on this board received bipartisan support in the N.C. House of Representatives and unanimous support in the N.C. State Senate.

“This is a great opportunity for Stanly County to have a seat at the table in Raleigh,” said Burleson. “I thank Speaker Moore for his support and vote of confidence in appointing me to advocate for North Carolina’s rural communities. Pubic service is in my heart and God gave me the ability to serve so I feel it’s my duty to give my time and talents back. I hope I can make a positive impact.”

Burleson previously served on the Stanly County Economic Development Commission and the county Board of Commissioners. He serves on the Stanly County Community College Board of Trustees.

The Rural Infrastructure Authority awards Rural, Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Utility Account grant funds. The authority consists of 17 members appointed by governor, president pro tempore of the Senate and speaker of the House.
