Gov. Roy Cooper officially signed North Carolina’s $27.9 billion budget recently, the second year in a row the state has passed a budget after he vetoed budget bills in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Some of the general highlights include an average 3.5 percent raise for most state workers, an average 4.2 percent raise for K-12 teachers and more than $800 million in water and sewer infrastructure projects. There’s also a record $4.75 billion for the state’s rainy day reserve fund.

Stanly County stands to receive a few million dollars which will go to various municipalities and organizations, according to Rep. Wayne Sasser, whose district includes Stanly, Cabarrus and Rowan. Below is a list of where some of the key funding is going in and around Stanly County:

• $1 million to the Stanly Adult Care Center, a respite program that will provide health care services to individuals 18 and older with physical and mental disabilities. Sandy Carelock, executive director, hopes to start renovating the facility at 1920 Woodhurst Lane in Albemarle later this year. The center should open sometime next year;
• $1 million to expand the SUN Project, which provides resources to pregnant mothers with substance use disorders, into Cabarrus, Rowan and Stanly counties;
• $500,000 for Stanly Salvation Army;
• $500,000 for Locust for water and sewer;
• $250,000 for Oakboro for water and sewer;
• $200,000 for Juneberry Ridge for an agricultural education pilot program focused on regenerative agriculture;
• $100,000 for Norwood for water and sewer; and
• $50,000 for the county for water and sewer.
