The Locust City Council on Thursday night unanimously approved a conditional rezoning request for a new express oil change business.

Founded in Thomasville in 2016, Strickland Brothers 10 Minute Oil Change is a quick service oil change service that operates more than a dozen locations, the majority of which are in North Carolina.

The proposed Locust location, totaling 1.05 acres, would be along West Main Street near Taco Bell. The facility would be 1,740 square feet and include three service bays, each with a maximum height of 22 feet.

Strickland Brothers offers services beyond oil changes including state inspections, tire rotations, state inspections and checks on lights, air filters, tire pressure, car fluids and windshield wipers, according to its website. Customers have the option to remain in their cars while the services are performed.

The property, which was zoned Highway Commercial, will now be rezoned Highway Commercial Conditioning.

The council also scheduled a public hearing and conditional rezoning request for Riley’s Retreat, a dog boarding service, for its Sept. 8 meeting.
