Sheriff’s Office arrests Midland residents on child abuse, sex crime charges

Two individuals were arrested Saturday for child abuse and sex crimes following a sexual assault investigation.
On Sept. 7, detectives with the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division received a report regarding a sexual assault involving a juvenile victim. Subsequent to an investigation, detectives obtained warrants for two suspects.
Chris Charles
Christopher David Charles, 38, of 4460 R L Lane, Midland, was arrested and charged with felony child abuse involving a sexual act, statutory sex offense with a child by an adult and second-degree forcible sex offense.
Sarah Hephzibah Charles, 33, of the same address, was arrested and

charged with felony child abuse involving a sexual act, statutory sex offense with a child by an adult, second-degree forcible sex offense and indecent liberties with a child.
Both individuals are being held in the Ralph McSwain Detention Center under $250,000 secured bond. An initial court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 27.
