Badin Library

Children’s storytime and crafts takes place Oct. 11 and 25 at 10:30 a.m.

An adult fall crafting get-together is Oct. 18 at 10:30 a.m.

Town Business

Town Council’s regular monthly meeting is Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Badin Conference Center.

Community Yard Sale

This Better Badin event was rescheduled for Oct. 15 from 7 a.m.-noon due to bad weather. Spaces in the ALCOA parking lot are $10. All buyers and sellers are welcome.

Sunshine Club

Come for fellowship and good food on Oct. 25 at 10:30 a.m. in Badin Baptist Church fellowship hall. Following the program, everyone will enjoy a covered dish lunch.

Please bring your favorite dish. Beverages and desserts are provided.

Palestine UMC

Love Thy Neighbor has a Meal and Message Oct. 17 at Grace Place at 5:30 p.m. The Love Thy Neighbor Thanksgiving Blessings love offering will be received Oct. 23.

Palestine UMW will host a Poor Man’s Supper Oct. 22 from 4 p.m. until the food runs out. Dine in or carry out a $10 plate of pintos, potatoes, cabbage, streaked meat, cornbread, dessert and beverage.

10 Days of Uwharrie

Lou Donaldson Blvd. Ceremony

North Carolina Department of Transportation will host a dedication ceremony Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. for renaming a portion of N.C. Highway 740 as Lou Donaldson Boulevard.

The public event at Cedar Grove AME Zion Church, 40539 Barnhardt Road, will honor Badin native and jazz great “Sweet Poppa Lou” Donaldson, 95, who will be present for the festivities.

The community is invited to join Donaldson, his family and friends, and other dignitaries for this recognition.

Tours of Narrows Dam

Better Badin will sponsor tours of the historic Narrows Dam Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to provide visitors a rare look at the 1917 masterpiece. Purchase $5 tickets and board vans next to Badin Historic Museum, 60 Falls Road.

Disc Golf Singles Tournament

Disc golfers can meet Oct. 15 between 9-9:45 a.m. at Hardaway Point No. 18 basket for a singles tournament from 10 a.m.-noon and a putting tournament from 1-4 p.m.

Music on the Patio

Loafers and Legends, 22 Falls Road, features Rick Thomas and his band on the patio Oct. 15 at 7 p.m., unless weather chases everyone indoors.

Better Badin Fish Fry

Drive to Loafers and Legends on Falls Road Oct. 16 from noon to 5 p.m. for a $10 plate of flounder, slaw, fries, hushpuppies and a beverage. Tickets are also available from Better Badin members.

Coffee Cupping with James Wahab

Mayor’s Walking Tour

Meet up with Mayor Anne Harwood and other neighbors Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. in front of Town Hall, 36 Falls Road, for a walking tour of Badin’s historic neighborhoods.

Hardaway Pow Wow

Badin Historic Museum will host the two-day Historic Badin Hardaway Pow Wow beginning Oct. 21. Badin Waterfront Park opens at 3:30 p.m. and a ceremonial dance begins at 4 p.m. to honor service vets, firefighters, law enforcement and community service.

A Grand Entry of Inter-tribal Dancers starts at 7 p.m., plus storytelling and flute music. Activities on Oct. 22 begin at 10:30 a.m. and include flute music, arts, crafts and face painting.

The Grand Entry at 1 p.m. and at 7 p.m. include more ceremonial and inter-tribal dancers plus the Pow Wow Princess and awards. The closing ceremony is at 9:45 p.m.

The event is free.

5K Run/Walk

The 4th Annual Best Dam Run/Walk Oct. 22 begins at 8 a.m. across from Badin UMC. The 5K Run/Walk follows a scenic paved road leading to the Narrows Dam. The Town of Badin Facebook page gives a link for signing up. Part of the proceeds will go to the nonprofit Better Badin, Inc.

Car Show

The 2nd Annual Best Dam Car Show Oct. 22 includes a Halloween Trunk or Treat, live music, food trucks and pinup contest. Check it out from 4-7 p.m. on the Village Green, across from Town Hall. The event is hosted by Lowincome Car Club, with a portion of proceeds going to the Butterfly House.

The cash entry fee is $20.

The Saturday night family-friendly movie will be Pixar’s “Cars” beginning at dark. Bring lawn chairs or blankets for this free film following a full day in Badin.
