Nathan Crisco, 18, of Albemarle and a member of Troop 202, earned his Eagle Scout Rank earlier this year.

He and his family held a ceremony at 3 p.m. Oct. 3 at Locust Presbyterian Church to commemorate his achievement.

Eagle Scout is the highest rank advancement presented in BSA Scouting. Crisco is one of only 2% of all Scouts who attain the rank of Eagle Scout.

To earn the rank of Eagle, each scout must earn 21 merit badges — Crisco earned 31 — as well as demonstrate leadership by successfully planning and completing a community service project.

Crisco’s community service project benefited the nonprofit organization Hands of a Sportsman. He, with the help of other Troop 202 Scouts, made a handicapped-accessible hunting blind for people unable to hunt independently.

“The things I have experienced in Troop 202 are amazing,” Crisco said. “The things I’ve learned and seen through scouting have really benefited me. I would just like to say thank you to everybody.”

A 2022 graduate of West Stanly High School, Crisco is taking classes full-time at Stanly Community College for business administration.

Crisco has been on a number of scouting trips — including an 11-day backpacking adventure through the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico in 2021. He has also traveled with Troop 202 to Yosemite National Park in California and Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.

Troop 202 has been active in the community through The Big Serve, picking up trash along Running Creek Road through the Adopt-A-Highway program and volunteering at West Stanly Christian Ministries. They meet at 7 on Tuesday nights at Locust Presbyterian Church.
