The Albemarle Rotary Club lived up to the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” at its regular meeting on Oct. 20.

Thirty-one members and guests were present to participate in a “Day of Service.”

Rotary Club President Bob Remsburg introduced the program with a quote from Desmond Tutu: “Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”

The Albemarle Rotary Board of Directors selected three projects for the “Day of Service.”

The first project was packing care kits with toys, snacks and activities for youth who come to Butterfly House. Thirty-three care kits were assembled through the donations of the members.

The second project was led by President-Elect Mandi Rogers and was assembling feminine hygiene bags for the Stanly County School System. These will be distributed by the schools whenever they are needed.

The third project was assembling Thanksgiving greeting cards for distribution to Meals On Wheels recipients in the Albemarle area.

The Inky Fingers group at the Stanly County Senior Center put together the card kits to be assembled. These cards will be delivered with meals later in November.

Albemarle Rotary Club members are responsible for one of the Meals On Wheels routes delivering a meal to seniors every weekday.

The Albemarle Rotary Club meets every Thursday at noon at the Magnolia Room of Atrium Stanly.
