Stanly County moves inmates after natural gas outage, anticipates PNG assistance

Some inmates from the Stanly County Jail have been relocated to other counties following a Piedmont Natural Gas outage.
County Manager Andy Lucas said some inmates who were housed in the older portion of the jail were moved “due to the temperature in the facility falling below the 68 degree regulation set by the N.C. Dept. of Health and Human Services.”
“We have moved all of our female inmates to Cabarrus County and will be relocating several male inmates to Montgomery County later today,” Lucas said.
Piedmont Natural Gas will bring bringing a natural gas tanker truck to the jail, Lucas said, “so we will be able to hook it up and provide a fuel source to heat the newer portion of the jail to avoid moving the majority of our inmates.”
All of the county’s Albemarle facilities are impacted by the natural gas outage, including the library, courthouse, jail, Commons, EMS Base 1 and senior center, Lucas said.
