A January tradition in Troy is set to return.

Little Roy Lewis has been providing musical entertainment and laughter annually in Montgomery County for almost 60 years. And he will do it again on Jan. 21 at the James Garner Center, 210 Burnette St., Troy.

“I started coming with my family in 1963,” recalled the banjo/guitar/ auto-harp playing pint-sized singer and comedian.

Promoter Jeff Branch of Oakboro is happy to see the Lincolnton, Georgia group return.

“After two years off due to the pandemic, I am excited to be able to bring back Little Roy and Lizzy to the James Garner Center,” Branch said. “Many people have been craving bluegrass and we’re ready to fill them up with the best.”

The Little Roy and Lizzy show features an evening of bluegrass and gospel music and intervals of humor.

At age 80, Little Roy hasn’t slowed down. He still hops around the stage, playing multiple instruments, telling jokes and donning crazy costumes. Lizzy Long joins in with a variety of instruments and vocals. They are backed by a full band of talented musicians.

Sponsored by the Troy Lions Club, who will be also provide concessions, the show starts at 7 p.m. on Jan. 21. Tickets are $20 for reserved seating. $15 for general admission.
