The Pfeiffer University softball team earned a doubleheader sweep of former USA South and current ODAC foe Averett University by 5-0 and 9-0 scores on Wednesday afternoon at Jack Ingram Field.

Game 1

Pfeiffer (5-1) sophomore pitcher Kenzi Lyall (Sparta, N.C.) struck out five Averett (2-2) just a pair of hits.  Teammate Sadie Lee (Norwood, N.C.) pitched the final two innings, allowing just one Averett hit.

Offensively, the Falcons jumped ahead 2-0 in the third inning on a Kyndell Warren (Lenoir, N.C.) RBI single followed by a sacrifice fly from Caiti Mickles (Boonville, N.C.).

Three more runs crossed in the fifth inning for Pfeiffer to provide the 5-0 final.  A two-RBI single from sophomore Gracie Griffin (Calabash, N.C.) and an RBI ground out from Emma Chopko (Mooresville, N.C.) did the damage for the Falcons.

Game 2

Strong pitching carried over to Game Two, as Pfeiffer’s Kali Morton (Mooresville, N.C.) allowed just one hit while striking out six Cougar batters in four innings of work.  Taylor Parrish (Rockingham, N.C.) forced a groundout and struck out the next two Averett batters in the fifth inning to end the game via the run-rule.

Pfeiffer’s bats also came alive in game two, hammering Averett pitching for nine hits in the shortened game with eight Falcons recording RBI.

Emma Chopko went 2-for-2 on the game including a double, her first of the season.

The Falcons will step away from Misenheimer for the first time this season to take part in the Grand Slam Triangle Classic at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex in Raleigh, N.C.

Pfeiffer will begin play Friday, taking on Belhaven at 12 p.m. and following up with a 2 p.m. game with Rowan.
