The City of Albemarle will have a public hearing during its city council meeting Monday night concerning an ordinance to approve of an annexation agreement between the city and the town of New London.

The agreement proposes the annexation by Albemarle of approximately 145.57 acres near U.S. Highway 52 North.

If both Albemarle and New London approve of the annexation agreement, the owners of tax parcel 7061 (Efird Farms LLC) could proceed with the standard annexation, zoning and approval process, according to information included in Albemarle’s agenda packet. This would likely include an annexation petition to be considered by council during its March 20 meeting and annexation and rezoning hearings in May.

The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. inside the City Hall Council Chambers.
