Brush fire near North Stanly High put out by New London VFD, state forestry service

A brush fire near North Stanly High School was quickly put out by fire officials this afternoon.

According to officials with Stanly County 911, calls were received at the center around 4:45 p.m.

New London Fire Department and the North Carolina Forestry Services were dispatched to the area.

Units found a brush fire near the school, then additional units from Richfield-Misenheimer and New London FD were requested.

The control time on the fire was called at 5:11 p.m.

U.S. Highway 52 was closed temporarily due to smoke in the area.
