A Concord resident was killed Wednesday morning after his vehicle collided with a tractor trailer along N.C. Highway 73 in Albemarle, according to Highway Patrol.

Steven Hand, 50, was traveling east shortly before 8 a.m. on N.C. 73 between Hatley Farm Road and Austin Road when his Mazda CX9 pulled into the left lane and hit the tractor trailer, Highway Patrol reported. The trailer traveled off the right side of the road and overturned.

Hand died of his injuries.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

The trailer was loaded with PVC deck railing, which spilled out onto the road, causing that portion of the highway to be closed, according to Highway Patrol.
