The New London Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 against approving an interlocal agreement between the town and the City of Albemarle regarding a proposed annexation of a property near U.S. Highway 52 North, according the Mayor Tate Daniels.

The Albemarle City Council had passed its portion of the agreement by a slim 4-3 vote during its meeting Monday night.

Had both municipalities approved of the agreement, it would have cleared the way for the owner of tax parcel 7061 (Efird Farms LLC), which is approximately 145.57 acres near U.S. 52, to proceed with the standard annexation, zoning and approval process with Albemarle. The property already had access to the City of Albemarle’s sewer.

With New London’s opposition, the property will now not be annexed into Albemarle’s city limits.
