Albemarle City Manager Michael Ferris has named an Albemarle native as the city’s new economic development director.

Lindsey Almond was selected following a nationwide search.

Almond has worked in local, regional and statewide capacities for workforce and economic development. She began her career as an economic development coordinator for Stanly County. She went on
to become business engagement and development manager, discretionary grant manager and equal opportunity officer for the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland. Almond has also served as vice president of operations for the Fayetteville Cumberland Economic Development Corporation. She was most recently director of Two Hawk Workforce Services, where her teams put nearly 400 people to work in on-the-job training programs, supported more than 1,200 people in building occupational skills and assisted nearly 2,200 businesses with retaining and building their workforce.

“Lindsey Almond’s professionalism and track record of getting results stood out during our evaluation process,” said Ferris. “Lindsey’s references highlighted not only her skills but also her outstanding qualities as a person. As an organization that places high value on character, we’re excited Lindsey is joining our team.”

Almond’s responsibilities will include managing the Albemarle Business Center (currently under construction), assisting local companies expand their operations and the City of Albemarle’s Main Street Program, which supports economic development in the downtown.

“I can’t wait to continue building on the positive momentum in Albemarle,” said Almond. “The city has worked diligently to create an atmosphere where businesses and industry can thrive. The strategic plan Albemarle City Council adopted is providing the direction and goals necessary for City Staff to turn vision into reality. I’m thrilled to join a team working collaboratively towards a common goal.”

Almond will begin her duties in April.
