The performance schedule for the Celebration of the Arts has been announced. Performances will take place in both the auditorium and lobby of the Agri-Civic Center at the event between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday.

• 9:15-9:30 a.m. — Albemarle Academy of Dance: Auditorium — Alydia Wheeler – “Bumblebee” jazz solo; Leah Kilde — “Apollo’s Mood” contemporary solo; Emma Salyer — “Uphill Battle” contemporary solo; Thora Kilde – “Swan Lake Pas De Trois Variation #1” Ballet Solo;

• 9:30-9:45 a.m. — Oakboro School of Music: Lobby, directed by Dana Jenkins;

• 10-10:20 a.m. — Stanly County Chorale: Auditorium, directed by Lisa Ewers;

• 10:30-10:45 a.m. — West Stanly Players: Lobby, directed by Wes Tucker;

• 11-11:30 a.m. — West Stanly High School: Auditorium — soloists, directed by Ariel Jones; Isabella Thomas – vocal solo; Chloe Carlson – flute solo; Katelynn Prymock – vocal solo; South Stanly High School soloist Annie Phillips – piano – original compositions;

• 11:30-11:50 a.m. — Pfeiffer University English Department: Lobby — poetry selections from The Phoenix, Pfeiffer’s literary journal; Shakespeare’s “Henry V” with a new twist; Chaucer’s “Canterbury Tales” selection in Middle English;

• 12-12:20 p.m. — South Stanly High School Concert Band: Auditorium, directed by Andrew Warburton;

• 12:30-12:45 p.m. — Annie Phillips: Lobby, piano solo;

• 1-1:20 p.m. — Stanly County Concert Band: Auditorium, directed by Carmella Hedrick, Tim Hedrick and Frank Poolos; and

• 2-2:30 p.m. — Awards Ceremony: Auditorium.

The ceremony will include recognition for artist support grant recipients Richard Cutright and Susan Lackey and presentation of the Fine Arts Educator of the Year Award and Arts Person of the Year Award.

The Celebration of the ARTS! is a free event that is open to the public, showcasing the arts in Stanly County with live performances, information booths from area arts organizations and art-based businesses, art demonstrations, an exhibition of student art from Stanly County schools and Stanly Community College, plus an opportunity to purchase art from local artists.

Creation Station is back — a place where kids can create their own art to take home.
