A motorcyclist who was eluding police died in an accident Wednesday afternoon in Badin.

According to a press release from the state Highway Patrol, Elijah Jonathan Crawford, 27, of Anaheim, California, lost control of his motorcycle on N.C. Highway 740 in front of the Badin Mart convenience store.

Crawford struck a stationary Stanly County Sheriff’s Office truck parked on the side of the roadway and was ejected from his motorcycle at impact.

The release stated Crawford “was actively fleeing from the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office.” Speed was the “contributing factor” in the collision, and is believed to be someone who had fled from State Highway Patrol officers in Montgomery County shortly before the incident in Badin.
