The Badin Town Council moved forward with one alley closure and received three more requests at the board’s meeting in March.

The council approved the request by Tito Thomas and Chris Carruthers to close an alley off Roosevelt Street between Jackson and Sumpter streets.

According to Town Manager Jay Almond, the cost to close the alley will be about $3,900. The cost includes certified mail notices to property owners abutting the alley, newspaper advertising, public sign notices and survey costs.

After the fees are paid, the board will have to consider adopting an ordinance to close the alley, Almond said. If the resolution is approved, it will be submitted to the register of deeds. Once a quitclaim deed of the alley is issued, “properties abutting the closed portion of the alley will gain eight additional feet of property where the alley will have once been.”

Almond said three other alley closure requests have been submitted to the town.
