Driver evades Stanly sheriff’s deputies, flees on foot in Mecklenburg County

Deputies with the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office are looking for someone who evaded deputies in Albemarle and fled into Mecklenburg County.

On Saturday, deputies received information about a larceny from Wal-Mart in Albemarle. Deputies were able to locate the suspect vehicle traveling west on N.C. Highway 24-27 towards Locust.

When deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled, according to sheriff’s office reports. The chase ended at the N.C. 24-27 and I-485 intersection in Mecklenburg County when the driver ran on foot.

Deputies were able to identify the driver as 25-year-old Lavonta Ta’qwan Rivers of 1710 Downy Birch Road, Charlotte.

Rivers has yet to be apprehended and has active warrants for felony flee to elude arrest, fail to heed lights and siren, reckless driving and multiple traffic offenses.
