West Stanly sweeps at Stanly County Schools track meet

The four high school track programs of Stanly County Schools met at North Stanly April 4 for the annual track meet.

West Stanly got big performances from a freshman on the women’s side and a junior on the men’s scores in sweeping the meet.

The West women won with 97 points, followed closely by Albemarle (86). North Stanly took third with 48 points and South was fourth with 23.

On the men’s side, West has 92 team points, with the Bulldogs coming in second with 75. South Stanly was third with 53 points and North finished with 36.

West Stanly freshman Kelsey Burleson was named Female Runner of the Year with first-place finishes in the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter races.

Colts junior Elijah Moffitt was the Male Field Athlete of the Year taking first in the high jump, second in the triple jump along with fourth in the  long jump.

South Stanly’s Joshawa Huneycutt was the Male Runner of the Year with three first-place finishes in the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs, while North Stanly’s Shalyn Bell was the Female Field Athlete of the Year, who finished first in the high jump and long jump and second in the triple jump.

Women’s 100m Hurdles: 1) Akala Garrett (AHS) 14.03 seconds; 2) Nariah Furr (WS) 17.64; 3) Lena Preslar 20.21.

Men’s 110m Hurdles: 1) Jefferson Barbee (WS) 17.25 seconds; 2) Jaxon Johnson (NS) 18.32; 3) Reyli Alverado (AHS) 18.66.

Women’s 100 meters: 1) Amari Baldwin (AHS) 12.86 seconds; 2) Mary Grace Krol (AHS) 13.17; 3) Ava Douglas (WS) 13.70.

Men’s 100 Meters: 1) Dre Davis (AHS) 11.13 seconds; 2) Jaylen Pinkney (AHS) 11.47; 3) Bryant Harris (NS) 11.71.

Women’s 4 x 200m Relay: 1) West Stanly (1:54.14); 2) North Stanly (1:59.77); 3) South Stanly (2:00.71).
