A 22-year-old Albemarle resident died early Sunday morning after his black Dodge pick-up ran off the road and struck a tree.

Zachery Gocher was driving eastbound along Austin Road between Harwood Road and Tercher Road around 6:30 a.m. when his vehicle traveled off the left shoulder of the roadway, according to Sgt. A.T. Bost with the N.C. State Highway Patrol. The truck then struck an embankment, overturned and collided with the tree.

Gocher was pronounced dead at the scene, Bost said.

Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash, Bost said.
