It’s that time of year again — time for the Summer Blast program, where youth can enjoy any of 16 camps promoted by Stanly County 4-H.

For further details regarding registration, payment, etc., visit the Summer Blast heading under the 4-H Youth Development tab on our website. All registrations will be done via Eventbrite beginning at 9 a.m. May 3. Physical payments for classes must be received at the 4-H Office by 4 p.m. June 2. Payments should be made either directly on Eventbrite, or via cash or check.

All ages are based off 4-H Program Age — the member’s age as of Jan. 1, 2023.

Breadmaking Basics:  Students will make homemade bread while practicing food safety skills, measuring skills and teamwork. This will be a day of tasting lots of different types of breads. Date/Time: June 13, 9 a.m.- 12 p.m.; Ages: 5-7; Cost:  $15; Class Limit: 15.

Livestock RoundUp: Learn about different livestock species through hands-on activities. Individuals will learn about the main livestock species, what and how they eat, where they live and how to take care of them. This camp is open to ages 9 and above. All participants will need to bring a bagged lunch. Date/Time:  June 14 9 a.m.- 2 p.m.; Ages: 9-18; Cost: $15.

Summer Safari: Come along for a day at the NC Zoo. Transportation and lunch will be provided for class attendees. Participants will need to bring money for any souvenirs that they would like. Date/Time: June 15, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.; Ages: 10-18; Cost: $30; Class Limit: 6.

Outdoor Adventure Camp: Campers will kayak Badin Lake for the day. Date/Time:  June 21, 9 a.m.- 12 p.m.; Ages: 10-18; Cost: $65; Class Limit: 10.

Cloverbud Money Fun:  Join for a day learning all about money, where money comes from, how to spend money and how to save money. There will be money games, money songs and each child will leave with their own piggy bank. Date/Time: June 27, 9 a.m.- 12 p.m.; Ages: 5-7; Cost: $10. Class Limit: 15.

Fit Kids Camp:  This three-day fit camp will take place at Gold’s Gym in Albemarle. Kids ages 9 and up will experience all kinds of exercise from local personal trainers. Water bottles and snacks will be provided to all participants. Youth are expected to dress appropriately in comfortable clothing and tennis shoes. Parents/Guardians are expected to check their child in and out each day. Date/Time: June 28-30, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.; Ages: 9+; Cost: $5; Class Limit: 20.

Camp Crafty:  Join for a day of art projects – guided paintings, clay sculpting and more. Date/Time: July 6, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.; Ages: 8-18; Cost: $45; Class Limit: 15.

Kids in the Kitchen: In this camp, youth will get hands-on learning by cooking, crafting, while receiving healthy eating education in the Extension Kitchen. They will learn basic nutrition, food safety and cooking skills that will allow them to gain confidence in cooking more and consuming healthier foods at home. Kids will receive their own cooking tools to take home. Participants are expected to wear closed toe shoes. Date/Time:  July 11-13, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.; Ages: 8-18; Cost: $50; Class Limit:  12.

Magic of Electricity: Soldering and circuits and LEDS, oh my! Learn basic soldering skills to assemble an electronic kit with the help of Stanly Community College instructor Gary Hatley. Date/Time: July 18, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.; Ages: 8-18; Cost: $15; Class Limit: 15.

Plant Detectives:  Campers will travel to the Plants for Human Health Institute in Kannapolis to learn all about plant science. They will participate in hands-on science experiments. Each participant will need to bring a bagged lunch for a picnic afterwards. Date/Time: July 19, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.; Ages: 10-18; Cost: $15; Class Limit: 8.

Cloverbuds in the Garden: Cloverbud 4-Hers will learn about gardening from the Master Gardeners. Participants will plant their own plants, decorate flower pots, learn about good bugs versus bad bugs and more. Date/Time: July 20, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.; Ages: 5-7; Cost: $15; Class Limit: 10.

Soil Science Camp: Participants will learn all about local soils, soil health, soil profiles and more. Date/Time: July 21, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.; Ages: 9-12; Cost: $15; Class Limit: 8.

Mind Your Manners: Participants will learn all about manners and then practice these manners at a tea party. Dress up in your favorite tea party outfit. Date/Time: July 25, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.; Ages: 5-7; Cost: $20; Class Limit: 10.

Sewing 101: Youth will learn the basics of sewing, including how to use sewing tools, how to use a sewing machine and how to follow a pattern while making their own sewing projects. At the conclusion, youth will leave with completed sewing projects. This camp is sponsored by the Stanly County ECA. Date/Time:  July 26-27, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.; Ages: 5-18; Cost: $5; Class Limit: 12.

Summer Road Trip: Participants will travel across Anson County to explore the Pee Dee Wildlife Refuge, visit Brown Creek Creamery and check out the local planetarium. Transportation will be provided. Each child should bring a bagged lunch each day. Date/Time: August 2-3, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.; Ages: 10-18; Cost: TBD; Class Limit: 8.

Summer Road Trip 2: Join for a day of adventuring around Rowan County. Stanly 4-H will team up with Rowan County 4-H to go geocaching at Patterson Farm. There will be a picnic lunch on the farm and Dan Nicholas Park will also be explored. All participants will need to bring a bagged lunch. Date/Time: August 4, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.; Ages: 8-10; Cost: $25; Class Limit: 8.
