In late 1911, representatives from around Stanly County met to form the Stanly County Fair Association.

The group organized a Farmer’s Exhibition in three weeks. This event in November 1911 had approximately 5,000 in attendance and was described by the local paper as the first fair in the county.

An annual fair was held the next few years but by 1915 they were gone. Some of the communities around the county had their own fairs, but info has not been found about a Stanly Fair being held the next two decades.

What we now know as the Fair was first held Oct. 15-20, 1934 on what was known as the King Farm on South Fourth Street.

The 1935 and 1936 fairs were at the Wiscassett Knitters ballpark that was on North Fifth Street.

The 1937 Stanly County Fair was across from the Old East Albemarle School where it remained for many years.
