May is here. Do you remember when people used to celebrate the first of May. I remember, as a child, dancing around the May Pole. It was really a big deal. We may not celebrate like that any more, but there’s just something about May that seems so festive.

Community News

Vacation Bible school is being planned by the churches of the West Badin Holy Week Association. This event is scheduled for June 10-24 at Shiloh Baptist Church. Team members are needed to assist in Hero Hotline VBS. Training is being scheduled so the week will be one of excellence and fun.

Mother’s Day Breakfast will be held at EE Waddell Center on May 14 from 8-10 a.m. There will be free food, music and door prizes.

The guest speaker will be Minister Judy Little of Wadesboro.

The Stanly Avengers present the 2nd Chance Workshop 3-5 p.m. May 20. This workshop will include onsite hiring process, onsite second chance employers, interactive interviewing, workforce development. keynote speakers and more.

Church News

Sanctuary Christian Outreach Ministry will present its annual missionary revival May 7-10.

May 7, the speaker will be Pastor Arnette Wall, of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Albemarle. Service will begin at 3 p.m.

The speakers for Monday through Wednesday will be Pastor Terry Lindsay of Rose of Sharon Friendship Church, Ansonville; Pastor Cecil Raysor of First Baptist, Norwood; and Pastor Michaek Stovall of Resurrection Community Church, Albemarle. These services will start at 7 nightly.

Host pastor is Bishop Gwendolyn Holland.

Men United For Christ will sponsor a Men’s Rally, “Man up! In a Man Down World, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 20 in Saints Delight Church parking lot.

The event will include free food, music, health and wellness screenings, inspirational testimonies and more.

This is for youth and men ages 10 and up.

Don’t hesitate to get your ticket for the First Baptist Church Anniversary Banquet. The church will be celebrating 106 years at 5 p.m. May 20 in the Magnolia Room of Atrium Health Stanly.
Entertainment will include Christian comedian Rod Allison, aka Rod of God, and performances by gospel artist Nakiska J.

The guest speaker will be Badin native Sister Cheryo Johnson.

Tickets are $40 and can be purchased from a FBC member or go to fbcbadin.org. Attire is formal.

St. Luke will host its annual Family and Friends Day at 11 a.m. May 28. The speaker will be Pastor Henry Cobb of South Carolina.

Donations can be given to any SLC member. Host pastor is Bishop Chenner Smith.
