Near midnight Jan. 29, Locust officers saw a vehicle with substantial recent front-end damage and detached vehicle parts traveling through a Locust business parking lot, according to a Facebook post May 1.
Officers tried to stop the vehicle to check the condition of the driver and the circumstances of the damage. The driver did not stop and attempted to flee on West Main Street recklessly and at a high rate of speed, police said.
Locust Patrol Officer Timmy Hartsell was able to set up near Meadow Creek Church Road and deploy an issued Stop Sticks tire deflation device which successfully deflated two tires on the suspect vehicle, and the pursuit was ended after the suspect vehicle could no longer continue fleeing near the Locust Wendy’s. The driver was apprehended without incident and charged with multiple offenses including felony flee to elude and driving while impaired.
On May 1, Hartsell was awarded a small commendation pin from Stop Sticks to honor his safe deployment ending in an arrest.
