Twelve students at Stanly Community College recently completed their 12-week training program for the electrical lineworker certificate. The program instructs students on the basic elements of electricity, overhead pole and electrical line construction, safety codes and applications, electric power systems, as well as transformer and meter installations. Upon successful completion of the program, students possess the necessary skills for employment in various electrical utility industries.

Eight students received $500 scholarships from the State Employees Credit Union Bridge to Career Program including Nicholas Barringer, Dallas Boles, Justin Collins, Israel Diaz, Eric Dudney, Gavin Drye, Jesus Espinoza-Millan and Greyson Love. Blake Helms was the recipient of the Will Hughes Scholarship, with an award of $250. In total, $4,250 was awarded in scholarship funding.

Jay Voyles, director of public utilities for the City of Albemarle was the ceremony’s guest speaker.

Graduates included Nicolas Barringer of Norwood, Dallas Boles of Troy, Justin Collins of Indian Trail, Alexander Cruz of Asheboro, Israel Diaz of Asheboro, Gavin Drye of Salisbury, Eric Dudney of Albemarle, Jesus Espinoza-Millan of Asheboro, Blake Helms of Locust), Greyson Love of Albemarle, Grayson Pope of Oakboro and Hayden Stiller of Rockwell.
