The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded an $11.7 million contract to replace two bridges on U.S. 29/601 over Irish Buffalo Creek in Concord, built in 1951.

Contractor Dane Construction Inc. of Mooresville can begin work in early July. The contract calls for all traffic-related work to be completed by fall 2026, with vegetation establishment continuing through spring 2027.

Key components of the project’s first phase include drilling shafts, driving piles, setting bridge girders, and other operations. These elements of the job will be restricted to fall and spring schedules due to the close proximity of overhead transmission lines that must stay active in summer and winter months.

Any closures required on U.S. 29 and U.S. 601 will be restricted to off-peak, nighttime hours.
