Palestine UMC

Volunteers will pack food bags for Badin Elementary students this evening at 5:30 and again May 23 in the basement of Palestine UMC. The bags will be delivered to the school the day after the packing.

The church will have its Mother-Daughter Banquet at 6 p.m. May 13 in the fellowship hall.

Love Thy Neighbor volunteers are providing lunch at Matthews Place on May 20.

Litter Patrol

The Better Badin Litter Patrol could use help on Friday sprucing up Falls Road and the town gateways before visitors arrive for Saturday’s Celtic Festival.

Please meet at the gazebo next to the library at 4 p.m. to receive supplies.

On Sunday, the day after the festival, volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. for another walk around town in case trash is left behind.

Badin Celtic Festival

Everyone’s invited to Badin for the return of the Badin Celtic Festival on Saturday — a free event sponsored by Better Badin, Inc. from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Festivities begin with the Scottish American Military Society Color Guard leading the way up Falls Road and over to the Waterfront Park for the festival’s inaugural Highland Games.

With three classes of competitors from around the state, nine “heavy athletic” events are expected to run all day.

On the Village Green, listen for the Celtic music of Trip Rogers and Raglan Road plus the unique sound and beat of various pipe and drum units. Numerous food, drink and craft vendors will augment Badin’s own Falls Road eateries and shops.

Heritage groups — representing traditional Scottish family clans — dressed in tartan kilts will be on hand and willing to share historical and cultural facts.

Kids athletic games at 11 a.m. and a Military Appreciation Ceremony at 2 p.m. have appeal for all ages.

Stop by the Better Badin tent to purchase $1 raffle tickets for two great prizes. Scotch tasting tickets can also be purchased there for the 1 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. seating at Loafers and Legends, 24 Falls Road.

Badin Library

Children’s Storytime and Crafts are at 10:30 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays each month.

Sunshine Club

All adults are invited to the Sunshine Club program and covered dish lunch at 10:30 a.m. May 23 at Badin Baptist Church fellowship hall.

Bread Giveaway

Stop by Badin VFD at 2 p.m. May 26 and take home a loaf of bread or package of rolls distributed by Better Badin.

Lupus Awareness Walk

Please invite family, friends and neighbors to Badin May 27 and paint the town purple for Lupus Awareness Month. Plans for a 9 a.m. Walk-a-Thon are being finalized by Cere McCall and Peggy Mabry.
