Four Stanly softball teams had first-round games Tuesday in the NCHSAA State Playoffs.

2A West

West Stanly 11, Randleman 0

West Stanly, the No. 4 seed in the 2A Western Region, advanced to the second round easily with an 11-0 five-inning win over Randleman.

Lily Huneycutt scattered three hits with one walk and nine strikeouts, earning the win in the circle for the Colts (24-1).

Aliyah Rush powered the West offense with three hits, including two triples and four RBIs, while Teagan Ritchie added a pair of solo home runs. Carmen McRae doubled twice for West, driving in a run, while Huneycutt had an RBI single.

The Colts host No. 13 Bandys (20-4) Friday night. The Trojans advanced with a 5-4 win over No. 20 Brevard.

Mount Pleasant 12, North Stanly 2

The Comets’ season ended on the road Tuesday night as the No. 23 seed, losing in six innings at the No. 10 seeded Tigers.

North finished the season 12-12 overall, having finished fourth in the 1A/2A Yadkin Valley Conference standings.

1A West
South Stanly 17, North Rowan 0

Two former conference rivals faced off in Norwood Tuesday when the Bulls hosted the Cavaliers.

South crossed the plate 12 times in the bottom of the first inning and rolled to a 17-0 shutout win versus North Rowan.

Mattie Poulos had a big offensive game for South (22-3), going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and five RBIs. Mary-Ryan Hinson also had three hits, including two doubles and two RBIs, while sophomore Kinsley Tyson drove in two runs.

Poulos also got the pitching win for South, striking out all six batters she faced in two innings. Riley Dennis pitched two innings of relief, also with six strikeouts, while Kinsley Tyson struck out the side with just one walk in an inning of relief.

The Bulls will host Uwharrie Charter (13-8) Friday night. The Eagles, the No. 15. seed, advanced with a 33-0 win over Highland Tech in the first round.

Draughn 6, Gray Stone 2

The Knights’ season ended Tuesday night as the No. 17 seed playing on the road at the 16 seed, the Draughn Wildcats.

Gray Stone finished fifth in the YVC with a 10-10 overall record, 5-7 in conference play.
