A man was taken into custody Friday after a SWAT situation at his home in Norwood.

Deputies with the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office received a call for service to 12430 Old Aquadale Road in reference to a disturbance, according to Lt. Joseph Lawing. Upon arrival, deputies attempted to make contact with the caller, George Becky.

According to WCNC, which first reported the story, Becky was barricaded inside his home with his wife, saying he was going to kill her.

When Becky, 66, exited the residence, he fired a shot. There was no exchange of gunfire between Becky and law enforcement.

Becky then went back into the residence and refused to exit. The Stanly County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was then activated and responded to the residence.

A short time later Becky was taken into custody without further incident. There were no injuries sustained to law enforcement, Becky or his wife.

Becky was charged with assault with a deadly weapon on government official x5, assault by pointing a gun, assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a female and communicating threats.

Becky received a $750,000 secured bond and is being held in the Ralph McSwain Detention Center.
