Former Pfeiffer employee named dean at Wake Tech Community College

Wake Tech Community College has announced that Dr. Michelle Jackson will be the new dean of liberal arts.

Jackson will provide direction, leadership and oversight for the Liberal Arts Division, including the Associate in Arts and Associate in Fine Arts transfer degrees, along with the English, communications, social sciences, foreign languages, fine arts, Academic Foundations and humanities courses needed by all transfer and career programs at Wake Tech.

Jackson brings more than 25 years of experience to Wake Tech, including public and private K-12, university and community college settings. Most recently, she served Broward College in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in a variety of leadership roles, including associate dean for academic affairs, district director of teaching, learning and academic assessment and assistant professor. In her last role as associate dean for academic affairs at Broward College, she led several areas within liberal arts, including modern foreign language, visual and performing arts, communication, philosophy, religion, theater and humanities.

Jackson begins her new role on July 1.

“I am looking forward to working with the amazing faculty and administrators in the Liberal Arts Division to continue to provide our community with equitable access to education and transform the lives of our students,” she said.

Jackson began her career in education as an adjunct instructor at South Piedmont Community College in Polkton. She has also held positions at Pfeiffer University and West Mecklenburg High School.

Jackson is a native of Wadesboro. She holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a master of arts in English from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a bachelor of arts in English Literary Studies and a minor in Secondary Education from Pfeiffer University.
