LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Albemarle neighborhood has become more dangerous
Published 3:00 pm Wednesday, June 28, 2023
I have owned my home for 30 years and lived in the same for the past 27 years.
I live in Anderson Heights. It’s a nice quiet neighborhood, but since all of the construction has started a few years ago to expand 24/27, our neighborhood has become a nightmare of traffic.
We have increased traffic as people cut through our neighborhood so they don’t have to stop at the signal in front of Blue Bay and McDonald’s as it backs up tremendously.
For the past three years, I have complained to the police department, and City Council personally and by phone that our neighborhood has become dangerous.
From the vantage point of my living room, I can see the three-way stop at Woodhurst and Lakeview. Six out of 10 cars that come to that three-way stop, do not stop. They don’t even touch their brakes. This includes Amazon drivers, FedEx drivers, UPS drivers and every day cars.
The police department did bring a mileage check sign at one point earlier in the year. And they stated the highest mileage that was noted was 83 mph.
We have young children that live on the corner near that intersection.
I have not seen any increased patrolling, or anything that has been done to address this issue.
I say all this as this is the last time I will bring this to the public attention. As I stated for three and a half years, I have complained to City Council and to the police department and it continues to be an issue.
Nothing has been done to address this.
My only hope is one of these children or some of my elderly neighbors that walk in the street, since we don’t have sidewalks, will not be hurt or even worse killed.
