Five young ladies will compete for the title of Miss Stanly County Fire Queen at 11 a.m. Tuesday following the welcoming ceremonies of the Oakboro Fourth of July Celebration.

Contestants and the fire department they represent are:

• Makayla Blalock – Ridgecrest VFD;

• Madelyn Efird – Oakboro VFD;

• Jenna Faulkner – Aquadale VFD;

• Madison Hall – West Stanly VFD; and

• Kinslie McNeil – Endy VFD

Other activities Tuesday include:

• the annual Fourth of July Parade at 9 a.m.;

• opening ceremonies with welcoming remarks by Mayor Chris Huneycutt, an invocation, the national anthem, Pledge of Allegiance and flag raising;

• a barbecue lunch at the fire department;

• rides on the midway open until 2 p.m. and again at 5 p.m.

• the Tonez in a free concert at 8:30 p.m.

• a raffle drawing at 10:30 p.m.; and

• fireworks at 11:30 p.m. The time of fireworks is subject to change depending on weather.

The celebration will conclude at midnight.
