ANNIVERSARY: Couple celebrates 68 years of marriage

Kenny and Frances Brown of Albemarle celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on July 2.
The couple were married July 2, 1955, at pfeiffer College Chapel in Misenheimer by Rev. Ivey L. Sharpe, father of the bride, and Rev. Edgar F. Pepper, brother-in-law of the bride.
Mrs. Brown is the former Frances Sharpe, daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. Ivey L. Sharpe. Mr. Brown is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Brown.
The couple’s four children and their families helped celebrate their special occasion. Included are Karen and John Waller and son, John Jr. and wife, Abby, Susan and Randy Gibson and children, Matt Chandler, Taylor and Mandy Hurley, Jennifer Gibson and Travis Gibson and wife, April, Teresa and Donnie Poplin and sons, Chase and Alex, Steve Brown and children, Zac and wife, Alyssa, Maddie and Aidan.
The couple has seven great-grandchildren, Kendall Chandler, Brody Parker, Mason and Jenson Gibson, twin girls Huxley and Sawyer Hurley and Ava Brown.
Mr. Brown is an Army veteran, and retired from the Stanly County school system after 33 years of teaching. Mrs. Brown was also a former school teacher in Stanly and Rowan counties.
The Browns have enjoyed their retirement years traveling, spending time with their families, watching many baseball and softball games, college graduations, weddings and Sunday fellowship at their traditional family lunches together.
The couple have been active members of Bethany United Methodist Church for 51 years.
