The City of Albemarle’s Downtown Catalyst Grant program has received additional funding support from ElectriCities of North Carolina in the form of a $10,000 Downtown Revitalization Grant.

ElectriCities awards competitive Downtown Revitalization Grants twice a year — each spring and fall — to its members in the North Carolina Eastern Municipal Power Agency (NCEMPA) and in North Carolina Municipal Power Agency Number 1 (NCMPA1).

The City of Albemarle is a NCMPA1 member.

“In recent years, leaders in our public power communities across North Carolina have been consistent in their requests for support with downtown revitalization. With this in mind, we created the Downtown Revitalization Grant program with the goal of supporting and catalyzing downtown investment,” said Carl Rees, manager of economic and community development at ElectriCities. “The City of Albemarle’s grant application was one of the best that we have seen and we are pleased to be a funder of the Catalyst program along with other public and private investors.”

“We’re thrilled to receive this generous support from ElectriCities to strengthen Albemarle’s Downtown Catalyst Grant Program,” said Lindsey Almond, Albemarle economic development director.

“We’re looking forward to utilizing these funds to continue the positive transformation taking place now in downtown Albemarle.”

The funds awarded by ElectriCities to Albemarle will support the city’s Downtown Catalyst Grant Program. The program assists businesses in the downtown municipal service district by offering grants to fund facade and/or building stabilization improvements as well as internal improvements including furniture, fixtures and equipment used in the business. The goal of the program is to strengthen investment in downtown Albemarle.
