BADIN NEWS: Town Council shows appreciation to church

According to Councilman Charlie Council, Badin Town Council recently recognized four individuals and Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church “for service to the community that helps make Badin a better place for everyone.”

Jo Grey

Chris Evans accepted the award on behalf of Mt. Zion. Amanda Bowers, Fran Marsh, Jane Rife and Valerie Tyson were also recognized.

Congratulations to these community leaders.

Morrow Mountain

The big canoes are coming back to the park for three free paddling sessions on Lake Tillery. An evening paddling event is Sept. 1 from 4:30-6 p.m. Morning events on Sept. 3-4 will be from 10-11:30 a.m. Participants must reserve a seat by calling the park office at 704-982-4402 as soon as possible.

Calling all Girl Scouts to register for the Girl Scouts Love State Parks event to be held Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Morrow Mountain State Park.

The MMSP website has additional information (see above), but registration is through the Hornets’ Nest website, www.hngirlscouts.org.

Limb & Brush

Monthly pickup of limbs and brush is scheduled for Sept. 5. Please place debris curbside before 8 a.m.

Palestine UMC

The Church Conference with the district superintendent is Sept. 5, and everyone is asked to arrive between 7:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The UM Women will meet Sept. 7 at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall. All are welcome.

Palestine Pals will gather at the Rosebriar Restaurant Sept. 12 at 11:30 a.m.

Litter Patrol

Thanks to Badin4Life and Better Badin for ongoing efforts at keeping Lou Donaldson Boulevard looking good. The next scheduled litter pickup is Sept. 9. Please meet at the gazebo on Falls Road at 8:30 a.m.

Better Badin

All volunteers are invited to the next meeting Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Badin Baptist Church.

This group is seeking more helping hands for the upcoming fall and holiday season events.

Badin Library

Children are invited to Storytime and Crafts on Sept. 12 at 10:30 a.m.

West Badin Festival

The 2nd Annual West Badin Festival and Homecoming, organized by Badin4Life, is planned for Sept. 16 from noon to 8 p.m. The Town of Badin Facebook page provides updates on festival activities. Vendor spots are still available for this fun and family-friendly event.

Save the Dates

Better Badin Fish Fry will be Oct. 22.

Historic Badin Hardaway PowWow is a two-day event, Oct. 28-29.

WinterFest is planned for Dec. 2. Better Badin is seeking vendors for food, arts and crafts, and more. Email inquiries to contact@better-badin.org.

Individuals and businesses are invited to contribute to the annual Red and Blue Christmas Rescue event hosted by Badin VFD, Badin Police Department and Stanly County Emergency Services. These community helpers provide breakfast at Badin VFD and a Christmas shopping spree on Dec. 16 for children in need.

Donation checks of any amount may be made out to Badin VFD Red and Blue Christmas Rescue, and mailed to same at P.O. Box 1450, Badin, NC 28009.
